What started as an inner pain that Nykolla felt while writing her feelings on paper turned into her lifelong passion.

There is nothing she enjoys more than writing (and reading) stories that are heart breaking and humorous, with a touch of cute, cliché romance and a poignant streak of truth running through them.

When she's not writing or making up stories, you can find her in a coffee shop with her nose in a book. Sometimes she pops in for fish and chips with her dog Marlo or does makeup (her other hobby).

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR

What inspired you to write Breakup blues?

Breakup blues is a story that I started writing two years ago and returned to it after a one-year break.

In the beginning, it was difficult for me to write about the main character's feelings, because everything she felt was inspired by my own feelings... However, I was determined to finally let it all out.

There are still many young people who are afraid to talk about their emotions. I wrote spontaneously, I didn't know anything in advance about the plot, it was interesting to learn about the characters and their development while writing.

I fell in love with the plot, with the complicated life of Nia Connor, with the characters who help each other heal through strong friendship. I knew that the book would also be about love, which would resemble all the embarrassing movie clichés (that's how Nia would say it), but the book is mainly about friendship, forgiveness, life's obstacles and much more.

What inspired the character of Nia Connor in the book Vive la London?

Nia Connor's story had me hooked even before I knew how it would end. I knew that the story about her would be my debut book - I adore her character and what she goes through and what she stands for.

For those who know me, it will come as no surprise that Nia and I have a lot in common - introvert, dress up in unusual outfits, feminist, human rights advocate, loving, sad (most of the time), a bit crazy, lover of her scuffed white boots and a professional in eating fish&chips…

For a long time, I was afraid to talk about my mental health problems, because as I found out, in adulthood, these problems are not talked about. I decided that each of the girls will have some serious problem, a secret, from which they will have to literally cut themselves out individually. I think people should be more open about these topics because there are a lot of young people going through them without even knowing it…

Why did you start writing?

When the first symptoms of depression and anxiety appeared, I wrote everything down.

For me, writing became a kind of escape bubble from my sadness.

I believe that the world needs more stories that uplift and encourage, inspire and are a kind of light in difficult times. I believe that words have a big impact - stories have a huge impact. And if I could influence the life of even one person with my story, I would feel extremely fulfilled and happy.
